Creating Global Leaders in Economics

The rise of India on the global stage is no longer a question but a reality. The sleeping giant has awakened. Now, the challenge before India is to get up and run. If IT was the engine of growth at the dawn of the millennium, let Economics and Finance be in the coming years!

Friends, we can create global leaders in Economics only if our young minds are motivated to think the economist way ! To start off they must be urged to broaden their horizons and think beyond the classroom ! And Arth-Manthan is a step towards this…

EVENTS AT ARTH-MANTHAN 2005

GLOBAL LEADERS MEET (3rd September - 10:30 am)

The participating teams will play the role of economic advisers of the various world countries allotted to them in advance. They will analyse the current economic policies of their country and discuss on measures to improve the standard of living of their country.

No. of Members per team: 5 (One Team per College)

CLASSIC COLLECTION: (2nd and 3rd September)

The Book Exhibition will include a wide range of books on Economics and Management.  Some of the most popular textbooks and reference books used in foreign universities will also be displayed.

PEN’EM DOWN:Essay Competition on current Economic issues. Topics :
!Poverty in India : A Case of Government Failure
Micro-Finance a Panacea for rural unemployment
!The Airline Boom in India: A Flight to Success?
!‘The Jobs Paradox’: Can we fill the skill gap in India?

DRAW’ EM UPPoster Competition
Students have to prepare Posters, which will be displayed during Arth-Manthan at the Poster Exhibition.

Theme: “The Saga of the Great Indian Family Business”

Maximum No. of Participants: 5 per college

Results of the competition will be announced at 1 pm on 2nd September

Cartoons and Posters must be made on white chart paper of 22” X 28”size with each participant’s name, class and college written at the back of the Poster/Cartoon.

AD-MASTERS

In this event participating teams will be given a product each, for which they have to prepare and present a logo, jingle and television advertisement.

No. of Participants: Maximum 2 teams per college ( 5 participants per team)

 
   
 
QUIZ WIZ (2nd September - 12 noon)

Topic: Current Economic Issues.
No. of Participants: Team of 5 students per college
Reporting time: 11 am

HATS OFF TO THEM (3rd September - 10 am)

Arth-Manthan 2003 saw the introduction of a new event “Hats off to them”. This event is a tribute to all great economists and their enormous contributions to the subject. The event aims to familiarise students with these great minds, their theories, their way of thinking and the real motivations that keep them ticking!

Participants will be asked to do a sketch on any one of the economists mentioned below and make a presentation on their contribution to Economics.

    Maximum No. of Participants: 5 per college

BUDDING ECONOMIST (3rd September - 11 am)

Students have to submit Reports and make Presentations on various topics.

Topics : 

Indian farmer - marginalised by new economy and orphaned by government. Suggest a new deal for them.

India to be a Global superpower: Present an action Plan

Indian Banking Sector - Challenges and Opportunities

Reports must be hand-written or typed neatly and should not exceed more than 2000 words.

Final Presentation has to be made in PowerPoint

Students have to submit recent paper cuttings, photographs, cartoons etc. from newspapers and magazines on the above issues. These have to be pasted on A4 size foolscap sheets, neatly arranged in a file. ‘Cut, Copy, Paste’ from the Net not allowed !

ONLINE MONOPOLY GAME (2nd September - 3 pm)

Each College has to send a team of 2 participants. Four teams will be selected to play the Final Game on the basis of an Elimination Test. The Elimination Test will be based on Micro & Macro Economics.
